The HAVES and the Have NOTS.....

There has been a battle to control Shuang Wen and it's future. The past of Shuang Wen was not true to it's name or it's children.
Shuang Wen dubbed their dual language afterschool program as part of the school. Those who could afford to learn Chinese were admitted to the school. Those who could not afford the program were named lazy and shiftless parents. This began the battle of the Haves and the Have Nots.

Shuang Wen is a public school open to all in the district regardless of economic status, religion, race or creed. The option of learning Mandrin was not for those who could afford it but for those who choose it. The reality of it all is that every parent that enrolls their children in the school are looking for a top notch education for their children at a rock bottom cost.  True HAVES donate and fundraise to make the school a better place overall. Currently our parents are NOT fund raising or focusing on how to use the money we have to make the school better.

Let's stop fighting for what is equally ours. The right to a free and exceptional education for all our children.

  1. "Those who could not afford the program were named lazy and shiftless parents."

This is just misinformation. It is a heartless thing to say and not true. For years, a dedicated group of parent volunteers worked hours each week to ensure that the whole program (including the after-school) would be free for all enrollees, regardless of economic background. For years they succeeded, until the economy tanked and the large grants they had secured ran dry. Last year, 2010-2011, was the first year people were required to pay for the SWAN program.

Please do not run down parents who you do not know, who were just doing their best to make sure everyone had a shot at Shuang Wen's excellence. Check your sources, too.

    1. This is true except that part of the reason was SWAN raising the price for the after-school to $600.00 and threatening to leave children in the lunchroom after 3:00 P.M., they also said that the program would have to be paid for which made DYCD come to the school. Since they were receiving money from DYCD they could not demand payment from parents and this was lost in all the convoluted rhetoric that took place after this was discovered

  2. That comment was told to me. I am the source. I have encountered serveral heartless parents and ignorant statements. By the way one of the reasons why the funding was taking away because people were being charged although they were receiving a grant that did not allow them to charge because was not enough to cover the whole school and without SWAN the school would not offer any Mandarin. That was poor planning and deceitful. The reason why it didn't work was because the funding for dual language was given to the school however the school used it's funds NOT for a true dual language program.

  3. Where do you get your information? DYCD could not commit to provide funding that year, and did not make up its mind and communicate its intention to provide the money until after the payments had been collected (because the alternative would have been to shut down the after-school on which hundreds of people were relying). When the problem was brought to their attention the following fall, SWAN paid the money back. Saultan Baptiste did a great job of shouting them down as they tried to explain what had happened and what they were doing to correct the problem. Were you present when this was going on?

When will you admit that you are the one who has been deceived? And you have welcomed the misinformation because you want to believe that Ling ling and all these Chinese people are evil. It just isn't that simple, A.S. People are complicated, just like you. And situations are complicated. What was SWAN supposed to do -- shut down the after-school because DYCD couldn't make up its mind? Leave hundreds of families without a program they had come to the school for and relied upon?

    1. Dear Anonymous:

It seems that you forget that others were there and that SWAN had put out a letter saying if you didn't pay $600 your child would be left in the cafeteria. The letter was in the press, and it is not that all Chinese people are evil, it is that there is a small contingent of people who are guilty of lying, deceit, libel and slander who rallied around ex-Principal Chou who has now been shown to be guilty of numerous violations of the Chancellor's rules and some that are criminal. You can put out all the subterfuge you want but it will not help. You have attacked people's children, parents reputations, and you think that there will be no legal blow back, but then again isn't that why none of you signed on to the law suit so that when the blow back comes you will not be named. I notice that Ms. Elston whose name appears prominently and Vincent Wong didn't sign why not. Ask yourself this before you put anymore rhetoric on this blog.

  4. Dear Anonymous May 10, 2012 It seems that you like Saying Poor Ed, who are you exactly Trinh, or Tina? It really doesn't matter because what you don't know is that P.S. 184 has been shown to be a DISTRICT 1 SCHOOL FROM THE BEGINNING. I will love to see your faces when you realize that the charges against your beloved Principal are REAL, and that she is facing CRIMINAL CHARGES after the D.O.E. gets finished with her. I wonder who will be the poor person Ed who you speak of? I know you hide because you are smart enough to realize that signing onto a lawsuit brings consequences when it is proved to have no standing. You even got poor Nicole Lin to sign and she is in two news articles talking about where she lives, how ignorant are you or is it because you don't care who you throw to the wolves to save your lover. It must be some kind of twisted love, or is it that you are part of the criminality that went on there. The search has just begun and as they dig deeper I wonder how many of you will be left or will you flee like the smart ones, Gale Elston, Maggie Wong, and your token Troy. You really think you are smart but you are the most ignorant bunch of malcontents who ever graced a courtroom. I could almost feel sorry for you but I don't and baby let me tell you I have printed out all your letters from Save Shuang Wen, and every other article any of you were mentioned in including the World Journal. You see, I have friends that report to me every time one of you appears in any publication so continue with your diatribe, continue your mindless attacks I have one of the best lawyers in the country and you; what can I say Good Luck
